About Our Team
Joby Early, Principal and RPLS
Joe Ben “Joby” Early, Jr. is the founder of Early Land Surveying. Joby has 27 years of experience in the land surveying industry, 25 of which have been in the Austin and surrounding areas.
He began his land surveying career in Paris, Texas in 1995 and through hands on experience and classroom training, has demonstrated mastery and excellence at every level. Joby received an A.A.S. in Drafting Technology from Paris Junior College in 1997 and a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003.
Joby has been practicing as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor since 2007. His extensive experience includes providing land surveying services for civil engineering firms, land development projects, commercial clients and municipalities all over the Central Texas area.
Brian "Bubba" Phillips, Project Manager and UAS Specialist
Bubba Phillips is a project manager and director of drone operations at Early Land Surveying, with 24 years of experience in the industry in Austin and the tri-county area.
He began his career as an instrument operator in 1998, and quickly moved up to party chief, with a total of 13 years field experience. Bubba received his A.A.S. in Land Surveying Technology/Geomatics from Austin Community College in 2011 and was registered as a commercial UAV pilot in 2018.
Bubba has gained vast knowledge and practice, both in the field and as a CAD technician, in both the commercial and private sectors in all facets topographic design surveys, Alta, Land Title, subdivision platting, construction layout, and specializing in drone data acquisition, photogrammetry and lidar data post processing.
Mike Watts, Senior Survey Technician
Mike Watts has been working in the land surveying industry since 2010 and has a background in technology and real estate. He is a graduate of Lamar University with A.A.S. degrees in Mechanics and in Middle Management. He is a member of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors.
